We offer here the most incredible pair of bronze candlesticks- perhaps the finest we have ever come across, found in the town of Versailles, France. They are intricately decorated with bees, dragonflies ,butterflies - flowers and foliage all in high relief. They are crafted with fine attention to detail and by a highly skilled artisan.

They date from circa 1840-1860 - French Napoleon III - at this time there was a worldwide interest in entomology, nature, botany - hence these would be perfectly on trend for the period and the very height of 'de rigeur'
They each have the original bobèche - which remove,(one has a small amount metal sheet missing to one edge- cannot be seen when in candles -and shown in photo 4)

They are absolutely as found- with a incredible aged, genuine patina - which we absolutely adore, but equally if the buyer wished to polish up - they would shine,as one can see the gilding peeping through in places.

These truly are a spectacular pair.

They are heavy and weigh 4 kilos/almost 9lbs combined - unpacked .

Height -10.75"/27.5cms

Diameter of base 6.5"/16.5cms

Condition - Excellent antique condition- - verdigris present in small areas - we have left as found in original state
