Beautiful large French bénitier- this was up until very recently hanging in a private chapel, in the grounds of a Chateau in south west France. It is grand in size for a bénitier , it is gilded bronze laid against polished black basalt, which in turn is laid against a brass backplate. In the centre of the frame is a charming image of the Madonna on porcelain.
The stoup below, also in gilded bronze is to hold the holy water.
On the reverse is a stamp/makers mark of an anchor with a rope entwined. There is an integral metal hook on the reverse to hang.
