Pourer pot /Lidded sugar bowl / 6 x Cups and matching saucers - sassy pink colourway - so kitsch
Six beautiful antique Japanese fine porcelain moriage Dragon cups & saucers - in Pink & Gold- with lithophane Geisha image in the base of each cup.
These lovely Geisha lithophane cups were first created in the late 1800’s and production continued until the 1950’s. The cups are thin and the photo found at the bottom of the cup is created using a varying thickness of porcelain. Most of these porcelain cups are made in the Kutani region of Japan.
Many Geisha lithophane cups were sent, or brought, home by World War II servicemen who gave them to their wives. The images above show what is commonly referred to as a “Single Geisha”, with a classical Japanese hairstyle. The geisha's hair is adorned with flowers.
I adore the finest eggshell porcelain that these sets are created from- attractive shaped shallow cup base - . The matching saucers have the same ornate dragon decoration.
Marked on the base (as per photo) "Lucky"
Condition -No damage - No chips, cracks or crazing-the exterior glaze is textural but matt - there is light rubbing to the gold but minimal.
