This is a most wonderful, dramatic piece of French Napoleon III artwork - the frame is totally sublime - Heavy and lacquered with an ebony finish - it is intricately carved and highly detailed , it is then highlighted with gold leaf work. It is small in stature but grand in style and presence.
In the centre is a small romantic oil on board of a courting couple in the gardens of perhaps a Chateau, he appears to be serenading her with a lute. It is signed in the lower right E. Sicard.
The painting and frame date , we believe from the early part of the 19th century-
Condition - Good antique condition -painting untouched as found - The frame overall is in good solid condition - there is some wear and light knocks to all the corners- have inc. close up in photos to show. there is rub to the gold in places. and there is some slight separation at the mitres- but all strong and solid - At some time reinforcements have been applied to the reverse. Please do be mindful that this fine piece is 200 years old.
