Amazing and incredibly RARE set of 10/Ten antique green/aqua/lavender Majolica Barbotine Creil & Montereau hand painted Asparagus plates - these would create a most stunning table setting for those that adore entertaining . These date from 1880 and to find one or two, almost 150 year old plates would be exciting - but to find 10 plus the largest of Platter's in such superb condition is astounding.
Large cabbage leaf with asparagus spears overlaid - the colours are intense - superb shades of green and delicious aqua's & the colourings are consistant.
Each Plate has an impressed number on the reverse and some plates have the initial of artist under the glaze.
Founded in 1797, the Creil factory, developed mainly in the 19th century. The group was created in 1840 by the merger of the two factories in Creil and Montereau, giving birth to the Lebeuf and Milliet company. The second half of the 19th century was a period of expansion and success for the manufacture with many awards and medals.
In 1895, the closure of the Creil site marked the beginning of the decline with production that ceased to be renewed.
In 1920, the Creil-Montereau group was taken over by the Choisy-le-Roi Manufacture, owned by Hypopolyte Boulenger. It then takes the name HBCM (Hippolyte Boulenger-Creil-Montereau). The Montereau earthenware factory closed permanently in 1955.

These plates & platter are in excellent condition - with no chips or cracks- perfectly good to be used for food service (no dishwasher!!!). - very, very fine crazing in places - very little used.
