French antique oil painting on a quatre foil wood panel - in the style of Francois Boucher or Jean Baptiste Huet- this piece dates we believe from the first half of the 19th century and is in the style of Louis XVI.
It depicts two putti one writing and the other holding aloft a tambourine and in the other hand a lyre, two doves are in the lower centre of the composition. The colouring is in shades of sepia.
On the reverse is a beautiful piece of silk brocade - and along, and around the edge is an intricate length of metallic passementerie. Both these textiles help to date this piece.
The size of this painting I believe adds to the appeal - perfect to display on a side table, desk or shelf.
Originally this may have been a stand alone piece or part of a panel,
Condition - Good antique condition -there is time related wear to the surface of the painting - some surface scratches which can be seen in the photos. The fabric on the reverse overall is in good condition, a little worn - but no holes or damage - it does have a couple of small stains- which again are visible in the photos -
Size - Length 18"/ 46cms
Height 14.5"/37 cms
