Pots de Chocolat History-
The French are credited for the invention of the Chocolate cups but the dessert, served in the cups may have evolved from English Syllabub. The term Pots de creme, or pot-au-creme translates from French to English as "pot of cream". Pot de creme cups are small, 2 1/2" to 3" tall and traditionally have one small handle. The pots are typically made of porcelain and hold approximately 3 ounces of custard. The earliest examples of these little lidded cups date back to France, St. Cloud porcelain factory, 1730.
They are exceptionally rare to find as their fine and fragile qualities made them susceptible to damage and it seems quite incredible to think these are 100+ years old and are in such immaculate condition- They would also only be found in houses and homes of great standing - they were associated with fine dining - therefore they would not produced in such huge numbers as everyday china.
