Large framed French Oil on board , framed in gilded wooden decorative frame - we believe this frame to be original to the painting .

We understand the oil painting dates from the early to mid 20th century - it is signed in the lower right E.Tatin - although there is no indication of which region the painting depicts - it does look very typical of the Cathar region of France , an area in the South of France that is scattered with hilltop Chateaus and castles - very similar to the scene painted.

The painting shows heavy defined brush strokes, and draws us onto the central path which leads us towards the tree lined track and towards the castle perched high above on the hillside.

We believe the artist to be Emile Tatin (listed in Benezit) born 1902 in France and died 1960- He was a painter and illustrator, who specialised in landscapes and still life.- His work was influenced by the seascapes of Eugene Boudin. Tatin was also a writer, who illustrated his books "Lendemains de Guerre" being one.

It is framed in what we believe to be the original gilded wooden frame it compliments the painting perfectly -

Condition - Excellent vintage condition -painting untouched as found - the painting shows no damage or paint loss, it is varnished over - the frame has no damage or knocks, simply light wear & rub.
