Beautiful French antique large plaster statue of St Anthony of Padua- He is marked and initialled on the reverse.
Most likely originates from a small chapel - he stands an impressive 17.25"/44cms - He has at some time in the distant past received a couple of coats of paint - One appears to be grey and the most recent a natural stone colour. We love the neutral single colour appearance - when we first spotted him we thought perhaps he was majolica - because of the lustrous finish - but it is simply the finish of the coating.
Some one has written on the base "Anthony"
He has some knocks to the base( mainly underneath ) and has a couple of flakes off - all detail shown on photos - but any markings are commensurate with her age and simply adds to his nordic style charm.
