A fine curvaceous bowl with detailed handles - There is a clear French Pexonne stamp on the base which means we can date this tureen to the last quarter of the 19th century - turn of the 20th.

Pexonne earthenware is one of the oldest earthenware factories in Lorraine in the department of Meurthe-et-Moselle. It is part of the earthenware factories in northern France, close to those of Badonviller, Lunéville, Saint-Clément, Niderviller, Sarreguemines and Longwy that exploit the clay lands of the region and its abundant wood for ovens.
 
The production consists of terre de fer/ironstone until the end of the 18th century & up until fine earthenware was produced from 1870.

 
This small earthenware factory will be at the origin of the success of the Fénal family, which also owns that of Badonviller and which will buy the earthenware of Lunéville in 1921.
