An original French antique black and Gold Insurance sign. Fire, Fire !! These signs were displayed outside insurance Companies and agents offices - to promote the importance of insurance against house fires (a new concept - insuring homes against fire damage) They were also displayed often on the outside of private homes to ensure the fire brigade were aware that they were insured - so they were produced in large quantities, - this is particularly attractive as it includes 'Paris' & 'Bordeaux' - two major French cities.
This sign dates from the late 1800's to the early 1900's.
This sign is overall in good condition , there is some rusting & flaking along the back left hand side - and the top coat of paint has worn on the left hand side front - but none of the typography is affected. There are 4 holes one in each corner to affix to the wall
Please do enlarge and check out the photos they clearly show the condition and item.
This is French toleware - which is gloss paint over sheet metal - it is not enamel, the sheet is contoured, ie; not completely flat but very slightly convex.
Size 21.5" X 16" or 55cms x 41 cms
