This is a rare and unique piece, this religious piece, dates from the late 19th century- early 20th & is created and cast from bronze. Although it sat in an Apse to the side of the altar in a fine private chapel to the south of Bordeaux. It was traditionally carried, we were told, as a processional piece, at time of harvest celebrations.
It has a superb weight of 3 kilos! (6.6lbs) comprised of a highly detailed lattice weave basket as the base with rope detail around the edge. From the top platform bronze branches of flowers and elongated leaves extend in an arched shape and over the top extend sheaves of wheat or barley. There are 5 candle holders spaced around the top of the basket (these originally had incense burning sticks in them - they are able to to travel through the base of the candle holder into the basket to support) but we have placed some small candles in them (included) There is a central support handle which has decorative leaf detail at the top before creating a ring handle to carry.
It is constructed with incredible attention to detail - look at the finishing detail under the basket.
So often these religious pieces were crafted using the finest of craftsmen available as they were not only treasured by the communities but it was a superb opportunity to display the skills of the local artisans.

Condition - Excellent - wear and rub commensurate with age - there is a little Verdi gris present, we have not made any attempt to clean or polish - it is as found. It has the original delicious patina.
