These 2 original French engravings /gravures are truly incredibly rare- please note these are not reproductions, these are original and date from the first quarter of the 19th century.

They are both under glass with the original ebonised frames - they are on black borders with a double border of narrow Napoleonic gold paper trim in relief.

On the verso of one is the original label of the framing shop in Paris - Francois Bachmann 61 rue des belles feuilles, Paris - Passy. - This shop ceased to exist in 1840- so we know that these pre date then.

One is entitled "Les Cartes" and the other "La Ruessite" - They both depict Nudes , highly risqué for the period both aprés Jean-Baptiste Mallet.

Jean-Baptiste Mallet, born in Grasse in 1759 and died in Paris on June 16, 1835, is a French painter.
He was a student of Simon Julien in Toulon, then of Pierre-Paul Prud'hon in Paris, Jean-Baptiste Mallet paints in gouache and watercolors, which create an authentic reflection of the society of the time of the First Empire. A genre painter, he also creates gravures engravings of his work. Jean-Baptiste Mallet's work is very similar to Jean-Baptiste Greuze, Jean-Honoré Fragonard, born like him in Grasse, and Louis-Léopold Boilly.

He also paints on porcelain, working for a time for the Dihl and Guérhard manufacture

These engravings are possibly over 200 years old and so precious and such a privilege to see and share with you. - Many of these original gravures are held in museums around the world.

Measurements - 12.75" X 9.75" OR 32.5cms x 25cms

Condition - Printed on heavy paper - One has had the back plate replaced at some time - but the frames and all other aspects are original. Both frames show signs of age and wear, some of the ebony lacquer has worn away in places. There is a little, minimal creasing visible on the engravings - but considering these are over 200 years old, complete. - they are in remarkably good condition. There is no staining to either.
