A most enchanting French Napoleon III silk brocade, velvet, wood & glass Jewellery Casket - with the original key.

This dates from circa 1860 and is so beautiful - it is quite incredible to think how many decades this has survived.

It is of wooden construction- the wood being covered with woven silk brocade (which is so totally typical of the period) moire silk,silk velvet in the interior and metallic braid to finish- It has a glass insert in the top and all edges of the glass are bevelled (another indication of quality in the Period) It comes with the original key and escutcheon plate. and sits on four tiny metal feet.

This is just a delightful addition to any "boudoir" 

The small items shown in the casket we are leaving to be sold with- this was as we found and it seems wrong to separate.

Condition - The box is time worn which is part of the authentic charm of this piece - please remember this item is over 150 years old - there is some staining to the brocade on the exterior and some of the moire silk is lightly marked. The metallic braid is missing on three sides on the top. The silk velvet inside is free from stains and damage (it is in exceedingly good condition for the age) The original bevelled glass is undamaged. The original key turns in the opening but does not lock the box.
