This is a most beautiful still-life painting by French artist Mme Alice Aubry- it captures a pitcher with stylised female figures in blue against the stone ware . The vase is holding a colourful collection of red and pink roses , some in bud and some in full bloom.
This oil painting is on canvas and framed in a wood and gesso decorative gilded frame- original we believe to the painting. The painting dates from circa 1905-1915. It is signed 'Aubry' clearly in the lower right.
Madame Alice Aubry was born in Valenciennes and she exhibited two still lifes at the Salon d'Automne , Grand Palais Paris in 1912 & 1913 - we believe this to be one of those paintings (ref. Benezit) -see photo exhibition entry.
