Antique French (13.75"/35cms) Plaster polychrome statue of Saint Philomena - This is just a wonderful antique example - aged and dating from the middle of the 19th century. This originates from a monastery in SW France.

We have not over cleaned the buyer may wish to clean further - but we love the patina as is.

A stylish antique piece of Religious art - that have become much coveted Decor pieces and are a beautiful addition to the home. They are becoming increasingly difficult to source in France. This particular saint is rarely found we have never in our 20+ years of treasure hunting come across an example.

Philomène is the name of a saint, virgin and martyr of the Catholic Church, who was the object of worship from 1805 to 1961, Out of every single saint recognized in the Catholic Church, Saint Philomena stands out for this specific reason. She is the only saint recognized by her miracles alone rather than a life of virtue. Her feast is August 11th.
Symbols: An anchor, arrows, a palm branch (symbol of martyrdom), and sometimes lilies (symbol of virginity).


Condition- Good antique condition - Please be mindful - this is an early piece - she has an aged finish - but there are no visible breaks or repairs no damage to hands, feet etc- all clearly visible in photos - it is this authentic, honest antique patina that we absolutely adore and that makes her so very special. The leather base is slightly worn.
