Exquisite bronze French Veilleuse or sanctuary lamp with ruby crystal hand blown, original glass inner with clear faceted crystal finial. Circa 1850's
This is such a beautiful decorative piece - originally found in a chapel- The sanctuary lamp, a small red light, shines when there is consecrated bread inside the tabernacle. Those entering the church will see the light and believe that it represents Christ's presence. Usually incorporating red glass but can be other different colours.
They hold a small tea light perfectly and have spiritual presence. -Adorable rare item.
The bronze casting includes the decorative detail of a crown rim - again symbolic of the crown of thorns - the stand has weight and is inscribed on the base.
