A pair of beautiful and rare antique majolica Asparagus plates - Produced by Wasmuel ceramics/faience in Belgium. This is a rare and hard to find plate.
Circa latter half of the 19th century- Three Asparagus lie casually across the plate - textural rim - with design in relief , so typical of Wasmuël and a half sunflower at the base of the plate.
The reverse of the majolica plate simply carries the artists' mark of a 'E'
It measures 9.5" /24cms in diameter
Condition -These plates have some chips around the rims - there are nibbles to the majolica glaze also around the rims - No cracks - Unfortunately this condition is quite typical of this 19th century pottery, it is quite soft and the glaze quite hard- which creates a strong contrast. Please do check the photos out and enlarge they clearly show the condition of the plate and are an integral part of the description.
