This is most amazing and beautiful French antique quilt or comforter - wool filled, weighty and with depth. It is hand stitched by a delicate and skilled needlewoman the stitches are even and the spacing superb. The work and time involved in creating this just leaves me in awe of the accomplishment.

The outer cover is created with a most delicious Rose pink heavy silk damask where each stitched diamond/lozenge shape on the quilt encompasses the spray of roses design of the damask. & the underside is in a brighter cotton sateen with a natural sheen. It also carries a double quilt border.

This dates from the Art deco period 1920's-30's and is superb condition for the age - this quilt has been treasured and cared for. There is very light shading to the lining - but the top has the teeniest suggestion of fade around the very edges only - we suspect this quiilt has had very little use. There are a couple of tiny marks on the underside - one a tiny black, perhaps pen mark- but it really is quite insignificant and the condition overall is outstanding.

This quilt is all hand stitched - It measures 84" x 87" or 215 cms x 240cms - Each lozenge shaped quilt measures 10.75cms/27" in height.
