Early antique French ironstone glazed kitchen pot - dating from the late 1800's - Sarreguemines stamp on base.
It has an indentation around the rim this is where string would be used to secure a muslin, cloth or paper cover.
These would be used for preserves or fruits - they make wonderful kitchen containers for utensils or similar -a useful and essential addition to a French Country Kitchen.
