Charming oil on stretched natural canvas -Louise Locoge - working in the first half of the 20th century. This painting is signed and dated 1944. It was exhibited at the Salon de artistes Francais- and is listed in the catalogue.
We adore the composition of a porcelain Madonna in front of a classical French terre de fer plate and with a small vase of Marguerite flowers- the suggestion of everything placed on a highly polished surface - by the reflections of the items below. It has the added attraction of a velvet finish as oppose to a gloss - which adds a naivety and softness to the painting.
Signed clearly on lower left.
The frame is perfectly complimentary to the painting, wood carved and with an aged painted appearance- rubbed in places to expose the 'rouge bole' beneath. We believe the frame to be original to the painting and it was clearly in this frame when exhibited as there is a label/hand written on the reverse confirming.
