This is one sensational large French Chinoiserie domed coffret box - originally designed to store your Opera and evening gloves and dating from 1880-90- late 19th century.
Created in France with an extremely fine leather over wood - lacquered and decorated by hand in gold in an oriental style - It has a bronze clasp that "clicks" secure on closure & bronze carrying handles at either end. It has a red lacquered inner tray that sits on a shelf and lifts to remove. The entire interior is lined in fine leather.
Inside it carries the original retailers label "L Leroy & Cie-Boulevard de Madeleine. Paris.
It is decorated on all sides (excluding the base) -
This would be an expensive and luxury item when initially purchased and would be in a fine, affluent home - although initially created to store long ladies evening gloves this is of course a highly decorative item that today could be repurposed to store numerous different items, perhaps in the home study, boudoir or simply anywhere around the home- that one wished to admire an exquisite French antique.

Condition- Good antique condition - General light wear and rub to the exterior of the box commensurate with age - the odd tiny missing lacquer "fait" mainly to a couple of edges-nothing to damage the decoration or pattern -NB. inside the base there are couple of dark marks to the lining.
