A French majolica asparagus server made by Creil et Montereau, circa 1890. This large oval earthenware master serving platter, although made in one piece, has the effect of a curved brown woven basket sitting on a teal blue fluted under tray. Open handles at each end are formed of two curved, realistically painted asparagus spears. The footed back side is glazed in a turquoise wash and shows an impressed mark, B6, a mold number & an artists mark.

Book Reference - Page # 119 of “Artichauts et Asperges en Barbotine” by Maryse Bottero.

Barbotine as it is known here in France is currently experiencing a resurgence in popularity and collectors are always keen to increase their Collection - this would be a fine addition.

Condition- Excellent antique condition - strong colours - appears as possibly unused- very light crazing on underside - truly minimal- this is a beautiful piece and displays magnificently and equally would look a fine centrepiece on any table.
