A French majolica asparagus server made by Creil et Montereau, circa 1890. This large oval earthenware master serving platter, although made in one piece, has the effect of a curved brown woven basket sitting on a teal blue fluted under tray. Open handles at each end are formed of two curved, realistically painted asparagus spears. The footed back side is glazed in a turquoise wash and shows an impressed mark, B6, a mold number & an artists mark.
