This is a most rare and beautiful find, discovered on a recent treasure truffling trip in the south of France. A Napoleonic - circa 1870 antique jewel box /coffret with original key. Constructed from a hard wood with gilded bronze decoration of laurel leaf couronnes entwined with ribbons, an elegant couple in period dress and a crown signifying this was the property of a French Countess.... quite magical. The whole box is encircled with the finest gilded filigree banding. and inside is lined with the prettiest silk brocade which is a perfect example of the style of the period. It has the original key - fully working  This is a rare and beautiful item - a true treasure. Condition- Good condition. There is light rub to the gilding all commensurate with age - this is less to the sides, where the gilding will not have been handled as much. Inside is superb, no staining or damage to the fabric.
