This is a most rare and beautiful find, discovered on a recent treasure truffling trip in the south of France.
A Napoleonic - circa 1870 antique jewel box /coffret with original key. Constructed from a hard wood with gilded bronze decoration of laurel leaf couronnes entwined with ribbons, an elegant couple in period dress and a crown signifying this was the property of a French Countess.... quite magical.
The whole box is encircled with the finest gilded filigree banding. and inside is lined with the prettiest silk brocade which is a perfect example of the style of the period.
It has the original key - fully working
This is a rare and beautiful item - a true treasure.
Condition- Good condition. There is light rub to the gilding all commensurate with age - this is less to the sides, where the gilding will not have been handled as much. Inside is superb, no staining or damage to the fabric. We suspect it has been little used.
