This beautiful length of French linen/cotton hand embroidered in silks has spent most of its life since it was completed in the 1930's, folded in paper in the drawer of an armoire. Whilst it seems such a shame that it has been hidden from sight for too long, it is the reason why it is in such superb condition and the silks as bright as when originally stitched.

Chinoiserie style so typical of the trend at the time - whether it was intended to be for a bed pelmet, Fire mantlepiece decoration or curtains/drapes pelmet is difficult to know. It has a channel along the top through which to thread a narrow pole or wire.

The firm, closely woven linen/cotton has a light cotton reverse - both layers have been stitched through and we have shown the reverse to show the finishing off of the thread ends. It would be perfectly feasible to line the piece with buckram or similar in the use of a pelmet.

Condition- Good antique condition- no holes or damage - there are some tiny marks - truly small marks on the background cloth - which may come out with spot cleaning - they are barely noticeable but we mention for complete accuracy. The colours are impressively fresh.

The measurements are length 210 cms /82.5" - width 29cms /11.5"
