Absolutely outstanding French antique, 19th century gilded bronze ciel de lit or Demi couronne for above a bed, crib or cot.
Circa 1860/70
Exceptionally detailed casting and of incredible high quality - the gilded bronze, which we have not over cleaned, prefering to leave as found as it as the most beautiful aged patina, still retaining the golden hue of its origins. - It is comprised of ribbons, bows and garlands of roses , highly ornate and decorative. All of these decorative pieces are attached to a heavy Demi lune of bronze - this has 3 brackets attached by which to attach to the ceiling (either with chains, cord or to a semi circle of wood)there is then an inner ring from which to hang the drapes - there are also two loops at the ends of the Demi to attach directly to the wall with brackets. In summary very strong fixing/anchorage points.
Condition - Excellent - some rub to the gilding all commensurate with age - no damage or breaks , repairs or missing pieces a truly fine example - possibly one of the best we have seen.
