A particularly fine set of 12 French Knives the blades are stamped Acier AMC Inox - They have Silver Collars/Ferrules with beautiful mother of pearl/Nacre lustre handles. They have shaped tips and date from 1870-1880. They sit in a velvet & silk lined leather box with snap fastenings. - These are main course/dinner knives and very useable (ie sharp)
This would be an expensive set of knives when produced. They were purchased from Peguret & Moniet - a high end luxury jewellery shop in the 19th century at 39 rue de Clignancourt. Paris.
Condition
They are in excellent antique condition with little signs of excessive wear. The blades are sharp, carry fine scratches and are sharp the handles are smooth & without cracks or fissures the MOP is lustrous, glossy and multi shaded- As with all Mother of pearl hand crafted knives there are slight minimal variances in size.
The box is in poor condition - the clasps close effectively - there are scuffs - & the silk hinge covers inside are torn , all visible on photos
